About

The documentary fabricâine was a self-initiated project and is a labour of love by Leah Mastropietro and Elina Preisig. The budget for the trip came from our modest student funds at the time. As students on the Multimedia Production course at the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons, the equipment was made available to us.

We handled the concept, camera work and the entire post-production ourselves in our spare time, alongside our other commitments such as our studies and part-time jobs. The concept for the film was developed during our third semester, and the trip took place in the fourth. As we are both the sort of people who find it hard to say no to cool projects, we were also working on other ideas at the same time. And then our bachelor’s thesis came along very quickly. Once we’d finished everything, we didn’t want to let the countless hours of footage just sit gathering dust on our SSD.

Thanks to the support of the creative agency Romeo & Jane, we were able to outsource the post-production to a professional editing suite in Zurich in early 2026 and complete our labour of love. A huge thank you to David Schildknecht for his trust.

Leah Mastropietro

Whether it’s sport, editing Reels or event planning, Leah is passionate about everything. Not only is she active in various clubs, but she also has a soft spot for animals. Her dog Yuri, for instance, originally comes from Romania and was the inspiration for ‘fabricâine’. Here, she not only gets to shine with her social media skills, but also brings her knack for storytelling and her full range of multimedia expertise to the table.

Elina Preisig

Having grown up in the mountains, Elina loves seeking out adventures in the great outdoors. Whether on road trips or city breaks, the multimedia producer is always up for it. Whether she’s working with a camera, recording sound or building a website, Elina is a master of all the software. She is also an animal lover and never misses an opportunity to stroke dogs. In the ‘fabricâine’ project, Elina can combine all her passions whilst embarking on a new adventure.

Origins of the project

Yuri

Yuri was born in Baia Mare, Romania. He was adopted in Switzerland in 2020, but his first owners gave him back after four months. He then lived in a foster home near Leah’s family. That is how Yuri found his forever home.
